JEA: Report streetlight outages before Halloween

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – With trick-or-treating right around the corner, JEA wants to make Halloween festivities safer. They want to know if any street lights in your neighborhood are out, so they can fix them before Oct. 31.

When walking through neighborhood and crossing streets, JEA wants to make sure not only that families trick-or-treating can see clearly, but that drivers can see the trick-or-treaters.

"We have more than 120,000 street lights in our service territory, and there's no way we can possibly keep track of which are working and which are not," JEA spokeswoman Gerri Boyce said.

That's why JEA is relying on residents to help them make sure all the city's streetlights are working properly in time for Halloween.

Boyce said having all of them working on the busy holiday that children love is important for many reasons.

"People see street lights as security, and especially on Halloween, not only for safety for the kids, but it also helps you as you're driving down the road, to see," Boyce said. "It's for the drivers as well, so it's a great opportunity to have those neighborhoods lit up."

Boyce said the best and fastest way to report a street light outage is by going online.

JEA will ask for your name and number, as well as the street light number, which can be found listed vertically on the pole. It will match or be close to your home address.

JEA said it understands the importance of having these neighborhood lights on during such a busy holiday for kids.

"We want them to be safe, we want their parents to be safe, and we want drivers to be able to see them a lot better as long as those street lights are working," Boyce said.

To report an outage, go to jea.com/Apps/Outage/ReportStreetlight.aspx or call 904-665-6000.
