The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says a 31-year-old man driving a 2006 Blue Dodge pick-up was involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot of a nearby restaurant. During that altercation the driver, in an attempt to get away from being assaulted got into the truck and started driving in the parking lot. While accelerating rapidly in reverse the driver backed into Wetherington.  The driver then left the scene.

A taxi cab driver saw the pickup leave and followed. He directed patrol deputies to the truck in the area of Shores Boulevard and Dorado Drive where a traffic stop was conducted.

Witnesses said a blue pickup hit the woman, backed up and struck a car, then left the scene. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said the driver was located by detectives and was being questioned.

The sheriff's office has not released the pickup truck driver's name. It also hasn't said what charges the man may face. The investigation continues.
