Man hospitalized in tree-trimming accident

24-year-old suffered severe head injuries

PALATKA, Fla. – A young man was flow to a hospital following a tree-trimming accident Monday afternoon, according to Palatka police.

Rescuers were called to the 1300 block of President Street about 2:30 p.m.

Palatka police said Florida Power and Light Company contractor Burford Tree Inc. was working on a large-area tree-trimming project covering several blocks in Palatka. Police said the 24-year-old was on the ground and a branch fell in an unexpected direction.

He suffered severe head wounds, despite wearing a helmet, police said. He was taken to UF Health in Gainesville.

The man's name was not immediately released.

Police said the incident is considered accidental. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was called to investigate.

Workers were continuing to trim trees.
