JSO: 4 Jacksonville shootings in just over 8 hours

Only one of incidents caused a life-threatening injury


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – There were four shootings in different parts of Jacksonville between 9:30 a.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the shootings were not related to each other.

A man was shot in the back just before 6 a.m. Sunday on the Southside. The shooting took place at America's Best Inn on Dix Ellis Trail near Baymeadows Road. Police say they found the 31-year-old victim near the back of the hotel. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening and he was transported to the hospital.


A woman was shot in the leg just after 4 a.m. Sunday. This shooting took place downtown on A. Philip Randolph Boulevard and Grant Street. She was taken to UF Health and is expected to be OK. One person has been detained. Police believe this was a domestic dispute.

Around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, police responded to another shooting in Arlington. Shots were fired at Summer Oaks Apartments on 5350 Arlington Expressway. No one was injured. 


Police say a security guard was making his rounds in the complex when he heard gunshots. Upon further investigation, he saw a black male suspect firing shots into the air. He confronted the suspect, who turned and pointed the gun at the security guard. The security guard shot at the suspect. Police later found the suspect and took him into custody.


Around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a shooting in the Northside. A man was shot multiple times at Mission Pointe Apartments. 

He was taken to a local hospital and is in life-threatening condition. Police say he is between the age of 30-50 years old. At this time, they do not have any suspects.
