Woman, 21, dies in Keystone Heights crash
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Fla. – A 21-year-old woman was killed in a crash in Keystone Heights on Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Mattison R. Thomas, 21, of Keystone Heights died at the scene of the crash. A 26-year-old Melrose man suffered serious injuries in the crash, which happened at County Road 214 at Casa Grande Boulevard. Branden T. Waters was taken to UF Health Shands in Gainesville in stable but critical condition.
According to the FHP report, Thomas' car was traveling eastbound on CR 214 and attempted to pass a car ahead of her that had slowed to turn left onto Casa Grande Boulevard.
Waters' car was traveling westbound on CR 214 approaching the intersection at Casa Grande Boulevard, when Thomas' car crossed the double yellow center lines of the roadway and hit Waters' car head on.
Waters' car spun and flipped before landing facing southwest on the North shoulder. Thomas' car was pushed back and spun to face north in the eastbound lane of CR 214.
