ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a woman was killed Monday in a crash on US-301 at Northeast 160th Avenue.

Troopers said a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta was headed south on US-301 when the driver lost control, crossing into the center median and then into the path of a tractor-trailer, driven by Arthur Martinez, 49, of Williston.

The Jetta's right side struck the left side of the tractor-trailer, causing it to be pulled by the truck, according to FHP.

The driver of the Jetta, who has only been identified as a 21-year-old man, suffered critical injuries.

Two passengers were in the Jetta at the time of the crash. Gilbert Madrigal, 23, of Jacksonville, suffered serious injuries and Soyla Ortiz-Cabrera, 21, of Tampa, was killed.

Troopers said Martinez was not injured.
