PALATKA, Fla. – A 34-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning on charges of domestic violence battery and obstructing justice after Putnam County deputies investigated a burglary call at a home in Hollister on Saturday afternoon.

Hollyce Marie Fuller, 28, reported that Benjamin Lloyd Slaughter, 34, had broken into her home and attacked her and grabbed her telephone from her in order to keep her from calling for help.

According to deputies, the victim was able to lock herself inside a bathroom during the attack and send a Facebook message to a friend, who then notified the Sheriff's Office. Slaughter left the residence the deputy arrived.

Fuller was hospitalized at the Putnam Community Medical Center for injuries she suffered in the attack. She was treated and released.

About 9 a.m. Sunday morning, a deputy spotted Slaughter driving his car into the parking lot of the Palatka Walmart. During a traffic stop, Slaughter was found to be driving with a suspended driver's license, and he was placed under arrest.

Once at the Putnam County jail, additional charges of burglary with battery and obstructing justice were added. The obstruction of justice charged was a result of depriving the victim from her phone and the ability to report a crime.

Because the charges were domestic violence related, Slaughter was ordered held without bond.
