FDLE investigates apparent suicide of Columbia County inmate

LAKE CITY, Fla. – An inmate at the Columbia County Detention Facility was found unresponsive in a cell just after 8 p.m. Thursday. Detention personnel began CPR and alerted EMS, who arrived and pronounced the inmate dead, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Aaron John Silcox, 36, of Lake City, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for traffic offenses, probation violation and drug possession. He was alone in a cell at the time of the incident and died of apparent suicide by self-asphyxiation.

Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter has requested the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conduct the investigation into the death. FDLE in cooperation with CCSO detectives are actively investigating the incident and attempting to locate the next of kin.
