80-year-old man skydives for his birthday

Ted Johnson founded the Alhambra Dinner Theatre

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – Ted Johnson, who founded the Alhambra Dinner Theatre in Jacksonville, decided to go skydiving to celebrate his 80th birthday over the weekend.

He took the plunge Saturday morning after taking off from the Fernandina Beach Airport.

Johnson is well-known in the Jacksonville community.

He's a graduate of The Bolles School and made his early career in the dinner theater industry. After opening five theaters in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, he settled in Jacksonville in 1967 and opened the Alhambra.

Johnson was the first chairman of the Jacksonville Sports and Entertainment Commission and helped bring major league soccer to Jacksonville.

He believes the investment of a community should be re-invested in that community.
