JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On what would be his birthday, a community came together Saturday for Lonzie Barton, the little boy missing for nearly three months.
Dozens gathered at Duck Pond in Macclenny for a birthday vigil in Lonzie's honor. They had balloons and candles to mark the occasion.
Saturday really was about Lonzie, so many just want to know where he is.
"Today is Lonzie's second birthday," said Sabra Rhue, a relative of Lonzie's family. "I just feel like, in my opinion, he hasn't been celebrated to me."
Rhue is a distant relative of Lonzie's family. Her goal in organizing the vigil was that the case not be discussed. Her efforts paid off as people of all ages were there to support Lonzie.
There were moments when people cried, just thinking about the little boy with the baby blue eyes.
"When I saw him, he was a very healthy little baby," said Patsy Harris, an organizer of the vigil. "The next thing I know, here we are, a missing child."
Missing, but not forgotten, but as time goes on without answers, members of the community can't help but question their faith ?that Lonzie will be found. But still, they pray.
"Now, do I still pray that he is found? Of course I do," Harris said. "But the longer it goes, the deeper it sets in."
