Police: Pizza delivery driver shoots robber

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pizza deliveryman shot a man who was attempting to rob him at gunpoint Saturday night on the Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said the robbery victim, whose name has not been released, was walking up to a home to deliver pizzas on Playschool Drive just before 10 p.m. when he was approached by two men, one pointing a shotgun at him.

The man with the shotgun demanded that the deliveryman hand over the pizzas, and then a second man came up and took the pizzas.

The man with the shotgun then demanded that the deliveryman empty his pockets.

The deliveryman slowly reached into his pocket, then grabbed the barrel of the shotgun, drew his handgun and shot the robber who was holding the shotgun. Both men fled the scene, leaving the shotgun behind.

Police said the robber showed up at UF Health with a gunshot wound and was arrested for armed robbery.
