Long Branch Elementary School on lockdown after shooting nearby

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As a safety precaution, authorities placed the Long Branch Elementary School on lock down while they investigated a shooting in the area Friday.

Jacksonville Sherriff Office was dispatched to 3603 Franklin St. where shots were reported being fired. Officer A.L. James arrived at the scene where he met with a witness, Gerald Givens, at the intersection of 27th and Franklin Streets.

Givens told the officer he was walking on Franklin Street, when a black male wearing a camouflage jacket and black pants fired several shots at him from a cream-colored Impala. Givens said the car then fled the area headed west on 21st Street.

A search of the area for the suspect's vehicle was conducted by responding units, but was unsuccessful. Givens did not wish to further cooperate or seek prosecution.
