The arrest came as the result of an ongoing investigation by Department of Children and Families of drug use around the baby.

A Putnam County deputy helped a DCF investigator check Ward's home on First Street shortly after 1 a.m. Friday.

During the investigation, the deputy said he spotted numerous syringes in the bedroom, as well as a spoon with burn marks on the bottom and tape around the handle.

The deputy said he also found a cold drink can fashioned to use for ingesting drugs.

The deputy conducted a field test on the powder residue on the can and it tested positive for meth, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Ward's home was in disarray with clothes piled knee deep on the floor of the carport, according to the deputy. He also said the home was infested with crawling insects.

Ward was arrested and booked into the Putnam County Jail with a $1,508 bond.

Her baby was placed in DCF custody.
