Lawtey Correctional facility under emergency lockdown

BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. – The Bradford County Sheriff's Office is reporting wind damage at the Lawtey Correctional Facility. The facility has been placed on an emergency lockdown out of precautionary measure.

According to Captain Brad Smith with BCSO, no one has been injured.

"The lockdown is just keeping everybody in place - so they're not in harms way. So we do have some resources in that have moved up in the area to ensure that there's nobody that’s in any type of danger right now," said Smith.

"It was just heavy winds and dark ominous clouds during the height of the storm- just some severe stuff. But, it's moving so fast and the winds are still constantly blowing. It didn't have that much time to really set it and cause extreme damage. It was just quick," said Smith.

Smith say they are preparing for more storms that may come through the area. The lockdown will be in effect until the storms clear.
