According to the FHP report, the Corolla, which was reported stolen from Winter Haven, was clocked by a trooper going 108 mph on I-95 northbound in St. Johns County about 3 a.m. Tuesday. The speed limit in that area is 70 mph.

The trooper caught up to the Corolla and tried to pull it over, but the driver did not stop and instead exited onto State Road 207.

The driver lost control of the car, slid into the center median, which damaged the front tires, and then continued going northbound in the southbound lanes of SR 207, troopers said.

The car stopped in the southbound lanes and then the driver and two passengers got out and ran away.

The trooper ran the car in the state and national databases and found that it was stolen.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office helped FHP set up a perimeter and the two passengers, 19-year-old John Crist of Ft. Lauderdale and an unidentified juvenile, were arrested and charged with grand theft auto.
