Man arrested in Lake City shootout

2 shot at convenience store Wednesday, deputies say

LAKE CITY, Fla. – A White Springs, Florida man was arrested Thursday after he and another man were shot the day before, behind a convenience store in Lake City, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

Darafael McKire, 29, faces two counts of selling, manufacturing, delivering and possession, with the intent to sell, of control substances., one count of discharging a firearm in public, one count of aggravated battery and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling or vehicle.

Deputies said the shooting happened Wednesday morning  in the parking lot of Munchies Food Store on East Duval Street in unincorporated Lake City.

A 911 call was made after 11 a.m. about gunshots in the parking lot of the convenience store. The Sheriff's Office said deputies were advised the vehicles involved were red and black passenger cars. A deputy saw a red car leaving the area and stopped it two blocks away.

Deputies said one of the passengers in that car was suffering from a gunshot wound. Information was later given that another gunshot victim had been driven to a hospital in a black car, according to the Sheriff's Office.

McKire was arrested on multiple charges in connection with the altercation after he was released from the hospital Thursday morning, deputies said.

McKire is being held on a $251,000 bond at the Columbia County Detention Facility, according to jail records.

The Sheriff's Office identified the other man who was injured as Ronyeah Wright, 21, of Lake City. 

The motive for the shooting are unknown. However, suspected narcotics were found on the ground near the shooting, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office said the investigation is ongoing.
