Butler and his girlfriend were involved in an argument with one of the victims in July 2013. State attorneys said after Butler left the area, the victim was picked up by his girlfriend and four children.
As they attempted to leave, they noticed Butler had returned and stopped his vehicle in the road near the entrance of the apartment complex, state attorneys said.
Butler and two other people then got out of his car, and he pulled out a gun and fired several shots, which struck the victim's car, state attorneys said. The victims fled the area without injuries.
Another person who was walking nearby during the shooting was hit in the shoulder. State attorneys said she later recovered from her injuries.
Butler will be sentenced the week of June 13, state attorneys said.
