JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – A utility payment scam is targeting Beaches Energy Service customers in the beaches and St. Johns County areas, the Jacksonville Beach Police Department announced Monday.

Scammers will make demands for utility payments by asking customers to purchase prepaid or reloadable credit cards then reading those numbers on the back of the card over the phone, according to police.
