Police ID man shot, killed outside Lake City hotel

LCPD continues to investigate

LAKE CITY, Fla. – A man was shot and killed Saturday morning outside a hotel on U.S. 90 near Interstate 75, the Lake City Police Department said.

Police identified the victim as Jeffrey Bryant Reeves, 51, of Lake City.

According to police, numerous 911 calls about gunshots at the Ramada Inn came in just before 9:30 a.m., and when officers arrived, the body of a man was found in the parking lot.

Lake City police told News4Jax a K-9 unit from Baker Correctional Institution began tracking around the hotel while Columbia County SWAT team members entered the hotel. No suspect or weapons were found.

Investigators said Reeves worked at Stake 'n Shake, which is next to the Ramada Inn.

“At this time, we are working closely with our law enforcement partners as well as the State Attorney’s Office to identify any and all leads in this case,” said Lake City Police Chief Argatha Gilmore. “We are confident that the suspect is no longer in the immediate area, and there is no danger to those nearby.”

While police said two possible persons of interest were developed in this case so far, but police believe that releasing their identities at this point could jeopardize the case.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was assisting in the investigation.

“Our investigative team has been working tirelessly through the weekend putting the pieces of this puzzle together,” Gilmore said. “Our condolences go out to the victim’s family, who deserves to know what happened, as well as it is our duty to find out who did this and bring them to justice.”
