Lake City teen dies after single-vehicle crash

19-year-old was discovered in critical condition 4 hours after crash, FHP says

Troopers said the crash happened about 2:30 a.m. Monday on County Road 240, just west of Southwest Peace Road.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 19-year-old boy died on Friday after he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed on Monday, authorities said.

The Florida Highway Patrol identified the victim as Christian Sheppard of Lake City.

About 2:30 a.m. Monday, troopers said Shepard lost control of the Dodge Dakota while negotiating a curve on County Road 240, just west of Southwest Peace Road.

He was ejected from the truck and discovered in a wheat field about four hours later, the incident report said.

Shepard was then taken to UF Health Shands in Gainesville in critical condition. 

He was pronounced dead about 12:30 p.m. Friday, troopers said.
