LAWTEY, Fla. – A pony ran loose for a couple of hours Wednesday in the Lawtey area and across U.S. 301, which has a lot of heavy truck traffic.

The Bradford County Sheriff's Office, Lawtey police, Bradford County Animal Control and an inmate crew from the Lawtey Correctional Institute helped round up the pony.

They were able to put a tranquilizer dart into him, but that didn't slow him down. He finally ran into a fenced area on private property, and crews shut the gate.

The pony stayed there until his owner showed up to get him early Wednesday evening, the Sheriff's Office told News4Jax.
