Three Fernandina Beach teenagers are charged with felony cruelty to animals after the video surfaced on social media. The teens admitted their roles in the video when confronted by deputies, according to the incident report.
Two of the girls are 14 years old and one is 13 years old. Because of their ages, News4Jax has chosen not to name them.
Nassau County deputies went to a house after being alerted to the video posted to Snapchat. The teens were read their Miranda rights and all admitted to their roles in the video, deputies said.
The video shows the girls laughing and even kicking the bunny as it tries to get away.
According to the incident report, the teen who filmed the abuse of the rabbit told deputies “that at the time she was recording the video she thought it was funny but later realized it was probably the wrong thing to do.”
The second girl threw the rabbit against the wall. The report says “she knew what she did was wrong but was just going along with her friends.”
The third teen also admitted she threw the rabbit against the wall and kicked it as it tried to get away.
The bunny should be available for adoption after its injuries have healed.
