Gainesville, Fla. – Detectives have identified David L. McClain, 17, as the person they say is responsible for the May 21 attack on a pizza delivery driver in the Granada Apartments in northwest Gainesville.
McClain admitted to committing the robbery and to having called a girl in Rhode Island and asking her to order pizzas from a Five Star Pizza, police said.

The plan was to have a pizza delivered to an empty apartment, then rob the driver.
Delivery driver Jacob Case was putting pizzas back in the trunk of his car when he was attacked and knocked unconscious for several seconds. He managed to drive himself to the Gainesville Police Department. He then was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
McClain was located in his home just blocks away from the Granada Apartments and taken into custody.
He led Detective Mullins of the Gainesville Police Department to the clothing he wore during the robbery and the axe handle he used to attack Case, said police.
Police said the soles of McClain's shoes matched the shoe prints he left behind at the crime scene.
In January 2015, McClain, along with others, committed the same type of crime, ordering pizzas to a vacant house and robbing the delivery driver using pepper spray. He is currently on probation for that crime.
McClain was taken to juvenile detention in Alachua County.
