JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Duval County Public Schools is introducing a new online portal, called "OneView," to provide easy access to student information, officials announced Thursday.

Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti explained Thursday how students, parents, teachers and administrators can now view resources and services with one login, through one centralized tool.

"As a critical component of our vision for proactive and modern data analytics, early warning indicators and forms of communication, OneView is an opportunity to empower the education community," he said.

He went on to explain OneView is not about replacing a current website but combining different learning applications like FOCUS, Achieve 3000 and Office 365 into one universal system.

Users can see both previous and current grades, test results and in which courses students are currently enrolled.

Students will have immediate access to email their teachers and will have communication forums to talk about academic work with other students in their classes.

Parents will be able to look at their student's grades, prior performance and a calendar that matches with their child's schedule.

One student at Alfred Dupont Middle School said he won't mind if his parents can check his grades.

"I try to do my very best in all of my work, and my parents look at my grades somewhat, but I think I'll be OK with them having access to my grades," he said.

Though it is a new system, Vitti said he wants to stress that the website is user friendly and parents should not have a problem figuring out the tools.

"I think most parents today, regardless of socioeconomic background, utilize some form of device for communication," he said. "I think in some ways the opportunity is greater to engage parents through this type of infrastructure because of where communication is moving and technology is moving."

The $6.1 million project was funded by a grant from the Quality Education for All Fund and developed in partnership with Microsoft.

OneView can be accessed on multiple devices, including smartphones, laptops and tablets.

The system will be implemented county-wide this fall, but parents and students can use the website starting in early July.
