Man guilty in arson case gets 5 years in federal prison

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who pleaded guilty on Feb. 29 to the arson of an automotive shop was sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison.

The Department of Justice said Steven Villareal, 30, walked into BLC Automotive on Blanding Boulevard on Feb. 17 at 3 a.m., used an acetylene torch to cut into a safe and stole a large amount of cash.

The DOJ said Villareal then used an accelerant to start a fire inside the buildling.

The fire was extinguished, and BLC Automotive was badly damaged, but the structure survived.

In addition to his prison sentence, Villareal was ordered to pay BLC Automative restitution in the amount of $30,000.
