2 arrested after passenger shot in vehicle

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – Two people have been charged after they shot into a vehicle and hit a passenger, according to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office.

Police have arrested Luther Heith Pease, 31, of Fernandina Beach and Kathleen Michelle Newton, 18, also of Fernandina Beach.

They're both charged with aggravated battery and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Pease was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Investigators said Newton was driving while Pease fired a weapon from the vehicle.

The incident happened back on Thursday, July 7 at about 2:30 p.m. Police said the driver of a 2012 Ford Fusion was traveling north on Owens Road in Nassauville.

The driver, described as an 18-year-old man from Fernandina Beach, observed a red car behind him. He heard a pop and his back window shattered. A bullet came through the window and struck the passenger in the front seat in his right shoulder. He's described as an 18-year-old man from Yulee.

The driver of the Ford was able to get his passenger to Baptist Nassau Hospital in Fernandina Beach. He was treated and released.

On Friday, July 22, 2016, the Nassau County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page the photos and information about the two wanted suspects. Nassau Sheriff Bill Leeper highlighted them on his weekly radio show "Nassau's Most Wanted" which airs on K-Bay 106.3 FM in Kingsland, Georgia. A day later, the suspects were found and arrested by the Camden County Sheriff's Office.
