JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man has been charged with kidnapping and sexual battery after raping a woman behind an apartment on Cleveland Road Saturday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Marquis Nelson, 24, took the woman behind a Cleveland Arms apartment building and raped her, police said.

The woman told the off-duty officers at the apartment complex that she told Nelson to get off of her, but he wouldn't.

Police said the woman used to live in the complex and knew Nelson. She was able to identify him to the officer.

The woman was taken to UF Health by rescue crews to get checked out, JSO said.

Additional units were called to the apartment complex because the woman told them Nelson was still in the area.

As Nelson was being arrested, police said he resisted and shouted obscenities at the officers.

Nelson is being held on more than $350,000 bond.
