JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two men were arrested after a 45-year-old man was carjacked at the Cleveland Arms Apartments Sunday, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrest reports.
Shelton Kitt, 18, and Javonte Ramsey, 21, are charged with carjacking with a firearm.
According to the Sheriff' Office, the victim said he was walking through his apartment complex and looking down to text on his cellphone when three men approached him from behind wearing bandannas and armed with handguns.
The victim told officers that the three men said, "You know what this is," before demanding his money.
Police said the victim raised his arms and told them he didn’t have any, but one of the men searched the victim and stole his wallet, cellphone and car keys to his Toyota Tundra.
Officers said they quickly found the victim's vehicle with the three men in it near West 17 Street. As officers attempted to pull the truck over, police said, the men jumped out and fled on foot. The truck idled forward several yards before hitting a patrol car.
The driver of the stolen truck, Kitt, was chased down with the help of a K-9 unit and was bit by the K-9 unit while trying to resist arrest after trying to hide in a backyard shed on West 18 Street, according to the Sheriff's Office.
One of the passengers in the truck, Ramsey, fled on foot and was chased down by officers and caught on West 16 Street after being shot by the officer with a Taser, investigators said.
After searching Ramsey, police said they found the victim's keys, wallet and cellphone and a stolen handgun was also retrieved near wear Ramsey was arrested.
After searching the area wear the men tried to run, police said, they found Kitt’s camouflage bandanna, a black beanie and a small bottle containing marijuana.
The Sheriff's Office continues to look for the third man who it said was involved in the carjacking. Anyone with information is asked to anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
