Baker County deputies arrest 11 on drug charges

BAKER COUNTY, Fla. – The Baker County Sheriff’s Office arrested 11 people Thursday as they concluded a months-long undercover drug investigation called Operation Summer Daze.

Baker County Lt. Brad Dougherty said there are no boundaries to who drug use can touch -- men and women, old and young. Some of those arrested were caught in public places in the community, including near churches and schools.

“Our narcotics officers, actually, they are always out there and gathering information and intelligence, finding out who the key people are in selling drugs and manufacturing drugs," Dougherty said. "We typically try to go after those people."

Those arrested in this bust and the charges against them:

  • Daniel Booth -- two counts of sell and possession of methamphetamine
  • James Davis --  two counts of sell and possession of controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a place of worship
  • Otis Jones -- two counts, sell and possession of cocaine
  • Theodore Surrency -- two counts sell and possession of narcotics within 1,000 feet of a place of worship
  • Carol Gainey and Delaney Swearingen, mother and daughter -- sell and possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a place of worship
  • Robert Church --  with three counts of sell and possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a place of worship
  • Anthony Long -- possession and sell of methamphetamine within 1000 feet of a specified area
  • David Johnson -- charged with possession and sell of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of place of worship.

All subjects have been booked into the Baker County Detention center,

Two others with arrest warrants as part of the operation remain wanted; James and Nancy Jackson, who are both charged with multiple counts of sell and possession of marijuana.

“(It) feels really good when we can get a group of officers together and we can go out and round these people up and let the community know that we are actually out there, we are trying to make a difference, we are trying to get these drugs off the street," Dougherty said.
