Jacksonville Sheriff's Office bomb squad called to investigate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Businesses and customers near the intersection of Beach Boulevard and San Pablo Road were told to stay inside Monday while the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad investigated a suspicious item.

Police said a missing persons detective spotted a pulled over a car belonging to a man they were looking for behind the strip mall. When the man told the officer he had an explosive device in the car, the area was cleared and San Pablo Road was closed until the bomb techs determined the item was a homemade firework.

Police are sorting things out to see if any charges are warranted.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office closed San Pablo to traffic for about an hour while the bomb squad investigated.
