Crash at Speedway gas pump ignites fire

Aguillar Bautista Pedro, 18, was arrested after police say he crashed his car into a gas pump at a Speedway gas station on Atlantic Blvd

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A fire broke out Sunday morning after a car crashed into a Speedway gas pump on Atlantic Boulevard at the corner of Art Museum Drive, the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department said.

At around 7:30 a.m., police arrived at the gas station to find a Ford Mustang crashed into a gas pump. Police said both the Mustang and the pump were ablaze.

The driver of the Mustang, undocumented Mexican immigrant Aguillar Bautista Pedro, 18, and the owner of the car, who was a passenger, were found a short distance from the crash, police said. 

Authorities said Pedro admitted to driving the Mustang and was charged with hit-and-run. 

Fire officials said they were able to safely put out the blaze. 

The gas station remains open, but the pumps have been closed.

There were no reports of any injuries.
