JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was arrested Friday morning after a neighbor saw the woman's son, who was left home alone, climbing over the railing of a second-story balcony, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. 

Candice Pridemore, 22, is facing a felony charge of child neglect.

Officers responded about 9 a.m. to an apartment on Justina Road after a neighbor called police when she spotted a child climbing on the railing of his second floor apartment's porch.

Police said the child was still straddling the guardrail when the arrived, and they asked the child to stop and let them in.

When officers went up the the apartment, they discovered that the child, whose age was not disclosed, was home alone with only the family dog, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Nearly 30 minutes later, police said, Pridemore returned to the apartment and told officers that she had only been at a Publix for a short time.

According to her arrest report, Pridemore claimed she asked a neighbor to watch the child, but that neighbor said Pridemore never asked for help.

Pridemore was booked into the Duval County Jail.
