JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg early Sunday in the parking lot of a nightclub on New Kings Road, just north of Moncrief Road West, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. outside the LaVilla Sportsman Club. The wounded teenager went to a home near the club, where police were called.
Signs on the club’s door reads "must be 21 and up." There’s another sign indicating that the club is open from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., but one of the club’s employees told News4Jax that it usually closes aabout 2 a.m.
The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, officials said.
There are surveillance cameras on the side of the building and above the door that investigators may be able to use to see what could have led up to the shooting.
The Sheriff's Office is searching for the shooter and has not released suspect information. It's unknown why the teen was outside the club, or if he ever made it inside.
The teen was taken to UF Health Jacksonville for treatment.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any information is asked to call police at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
