Westside home a 'complete loss' after crane crashes through roof

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Westside homeowner has found out her home is a complete loss after a tree removal crane fell into it, last weekend, according to her insurance company.

Last Saturday Fay Aleria hired Al's Tree Service to remove a large tree from her yard on Red Holly Lane near Trinity Baptist Church. The company then sub-contracted to Builder's Diversified to remove the tree.

It was then the tree removal crane too on too much of a load and flipped upwards, into the family's living room.

Aleria originally thought she would only have to stay with a neighbor for four to five months while the home was repaired but has since learned the home will have to be torn down. That cannot happen until a six month investigation is completed to determine who is responsible for the incident.

"I wish we hadn't had it removed. You know it's hardi," said Aleria. "It's hard. It's really inconvinient. My dog is trying to get used to a different place."

Aleria said she plans to stay with neighbors for now, but they will be moving out. She will then rent the home until hers can be rebuilt.
