Pickup truck crashes into Southside day care

Driver takes off after crash; found short time later

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A driver crashed a pickup truck into a Southside day care and then took off, police said.

It happened Friday afternoon at the Little Temples Daycare in the Shad Landing Shopping Center on Shad Road just west of Philips Highway.

Little Temples sustained considerable damage. On Saturday, the windows were boarded up with plywood and the caution tape strung up indicates that there’s still much more work to be done.

Inside the day care, broken glass and sheetrock were blown all over the floor.

News4Jax contacted the owner of the day care, who said, “It was a nightmare,” but wouldn’t comment further.

“We were so sorry to hear about that,” Terri Mashour, with Fun 4 First Coast Kids, said. “We hope everyone was OK and they got word out to the parents.”

No injuries were reported. The full extent of the damage to the building is not yet known.

The day care owner's family told News4Jax that officers found the driver a short time later.
