JSO officer injured in motorcycle crash in Grand Park

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A motorcycle officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was injured Monday morning in a crash in Grand Park.

Police said Officer Gary VanLooven lost control of his motorcycle while chasing a speeder at Soutel Drive and Moncrief Road. VanLooven was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A witness told News4Jax the officer was unconscious during the crash.

Police said VanLooven has been with JSO for 15 years.

He was still listed in serious condition about 5:15 p.m. Monday.

"We thank you for all of the thoughts and prayers," JSO posted on its Twitter page.
