Police said Pablo Jermaris Johnson, 51, called shortly before 1:30 p.m. with information that a person was possibly dead inside an apartment at the complex.

According to Johnson's arrest report, he went to a nearby veterans affairs hospital, where he told an employee that he hurt somebody and probably needed to talk to police. The employee told police they overheard Johnson tell someone on his cellphone that he hurt someone.

Officers responded to Johnson's apartment and found Davis dead from three gunshot wounds. Police said a total of eight shots were fired. Police said they found a pistol on the floor next to Davis' body.

Police identified Johnson as a person of interest at the VA hospital and took him into custody after he told a mental health counselor there that he "messed up real bad and thinks he might go to prison." He told the counselor that he "got into a fight with a female and she has not moved since last night," adding that she wasn't breathing.

He was later arrested at the VA hospital and charged with murder, according to his arrest report.

During his interview with investigators, Johnson told police that he told Davis to leave his apartment after she hit him in the head with an unknown object. Johnson said Davis grabbed his “bag” as she tried to leave, but cut himself off before elaborating, saying he wanted a lawyer. Moments later, Johnson spontaneously uttered that “it happened so fast. It just happened so fast.”

Police said that at no time did Johnson say that he acted out of self-defense.

Davis’ father told investigators that he received a text message from his daughter just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, which read, “If something happens to me. Pablo J Johnson September 3 1965 did it! I love u.” The message was accompanied by a picture of Johnson.

Several neighbors told police that they heard gunshots between 10 and 11 p.m.

According to records, Johnson was involved in a domestic violence case in 2016, where he threatened to shoot Davis and punch her.

Police said they do not have any reason to believe that anyone else is in danger.
