KINGSLAND, Ga. – A 30-year-old woman has been charged with child molestation after deputies said she encouraged two young children to perform sex acts while she watched, the Camden County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday.
Investigators said Kelly Lynne Small, of Kingsland, Georgia, is facing two counts of child molestation involving children who were 8 and 6 years old.
The investigation began on Aug. 3, when it was reported that Small had encouraged the children to perform sexual acts while she watched two years ago, deputies said.
“She has custodial responsibility for these children and she encouraged this activity, so since they are minors, she was charged with molestation, because she actually encouraged the activity,” News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith said of the allegations.
The alleged incident was recently revealed by the children to their parents, prompting the investigation, which led to the charges, deputies said.
Smith said it’s hard to know why investigators were able to file charges against Small based on allegations from children about something that supposedly happened two years ago.
“We don’t have the full information. There could have been some other witnesses or people who knew about it,” Smith said. “Maybe there was some kind of physical evidence. Also, their reporting of it may be separately and their stories actually matching up.”
Small will face a judge Friday for a bail hearing.
