2 Gainesville police officers decision to apply tourniquet may have saved injured pedestrian

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two Gainesville police officers' quick thinking may have saved a man's life Saturday.

Officers responded to reports of a man walking erratically in and out of traffic near 1100 East University Avenue. The man, was truck in the right leg by a passing vehicle, causing significant damage to his leg, including an arterial bleed, police said.

Two officers arrived on the scene an applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. Moments later, Putnam County EMS arrived and for further treatment. Putnam County EMS said that the officers' decision to apply the tourniquet likely saved his life. 

The man was taken to Shands Hospital and was listed in stable condition. His injuries were called non-life threatening after arriving at the hospital.
