String of car burglaries reported at Citigate Apartments

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A number of residents at a Southside apartment complex woke up to ransacked cars Monday morning.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, several vehicles were burglarized at the Citigate Apartment complex on Gate Parkway. Some of the cars were ransacked while others had items stolen out of the vehicles.

Officers on scene said several of the vehicles were unlocked. At least a dozen cars were ransacked, according to the sheriff's office.

Demetria Brown said her car was not broken into, because she locked it.

"I'm glad I locked it. People make mistakes. People are busy and sometime forget to lock their cars," Brown said. "I've done it, too."

She said she's made a habit of checking that her car is locked.

"I feel bad, but at least they're OK. That's all that matters," Brown said. "You can replace material things."
