Florida native Pitbull sends plane to Puerto Rico to rescue cancer patients

American rapper Pitbull, a South Florida native, is reportedly sending his private jet to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico to ferry cancer patients back to the U.S. mainland for treatment.

The selfless gesture, first reported Tuesday by the New York Daily News, drew widespread praise on social media, including a thank you from Puerto Rico Congresswoman Jenniffer Gonzalez.

"Thank you @pitbull for lending your private plane to move cancer patients from PR to USA so that they can get chemo," Gonzalez wrote.

For his part, the rapper -- whose real name is Armando Christian Perez -- modestly acknowledged his involvement with Hurricane Maria relief efforts in a statement to the Daily News.

“Thank God we’re blessed to help," he said. "Just doing my part."

Puerto Rico was one of the areas hardest hit by the hurricane, which knocked out power for millions, many of whom are still in the dark.
