Costco construction causing noise concerns, Westside residents say

Jacksonville's 2nd Costco being built near Collins Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The new Costco being built on Jacksonville's Westside has become a headache for people living near the construction.

In July, neighbors told News4Jax that they were upset that crews cut down trees, and there were drainage issues.

Now, Westside residents said, bright lights and constant noise are also becoming concerns.

Brandon Shelton told News4Jax on Wednesday that the construction of the Costco near Collins Road has been a nuisance. He said lights are usually pointed directly at his home at night, causing a major distraction.

“It lights up all the way down our street and lights up our backyard like a stadium," he said.

Shelton said the loud construction late at night is also a pain.

“It usually starts at 7 and goes on until 9:59 Monday through Saturday," Shelton said.

He said he’s contacted the project manager for the Costco, but hasn’t heard back. News4Jax also reached out Wednesday, and has yet to receive a response.

But Shelton said the most frustrating part is soil washing out in his backyard. He said he’s been trying to get that fixed since July, but nothing’s been done to help.

“You get up in the morning after a heavy rain and there’s 2-foot gaps between the bottom of the fence and the ground," Shelton said.

He’s hopeful the manager will soon take action to help his neighborhood rest better at night.

Shelton said he was told the construction of the new Costco would be finished by this fall. But there is no word on an exact date at this time.
