Search for 'suspicious person' prompts lockdown at Kirby Smith Middle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police activity in Jacksonville's Springfield neighborhood led administrators to place Kirby Smith Middle School on lockdown Thursday morning.

The Sheriff's Office confirmed officers were in the area helping Duval County public schools police look for a reported suspicious person who may be armed.

Multiple parents reached out to News4Jax, saying a helicopter was seen flying overhead and police were patrolling the area.

News4Jax reached out to the school district for details. 

DCPS was able to confirm all students and staff were safe. The lockdown was lifted around 8:45 a.m.
