Man killed during robbery at Century 21 Drive apartment

Police urge residents to be on alert until gunman is identified

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 34-year-old man was killed during an apparent home invasion early Thursday morning at a complex off Atlantic Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

According to JSO, officers arrived at the Shore House apartment complex on Century 21 Drive around 6 a.m. to investigate a possible robbery with injures. Police found Rebwar Khalid Mohammed Alkurdi with a gunshot wound in his apartment. He was transported to the hospital, where he died.

Police had no suspect information as of Thursday morning, but urged neighbors to be on alert and stay aware of their surroundings as they investigate and identify a gunman.

"You don’t know the type of people that you’re around and it’s just shocking," Shore House resident Sierra Cooper said. "I’m assume I’m going to be safe, but the situation happened so close to the front (of the complex). It’s like, am I safe or is it just there is nowhere to be safe? That's the scary part about it."
