Deputies: 23-year-old driver hits tree on Racetrack Road, dies

FRUIT COVE, Fla. – A 23-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Fruit Cove late Monday night, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Adam Bridges of St. Johns was driving a BMW west on Racetrack Road at a high rate of speed about 11:40 p.m. Monday when he hit a median at Durbin Creek Boulevard and then struck a tree in the median.

Bridges was trapped in the vehicle and firefighters said he died at the scene.

The four-door vehicle was heavily damaged and debris from the wreck could be seen scattered across the roadway.

No other passengers were in the car.
