JSO: Security guard mom accidentally shoots 14-year-old daughter

Woman, 33, was cleaning gun when it went off, Jacksonville police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 14-year-old girl was accidentally shot by her mother Sunday night on Jacksonville's Westside, according to police.

The 33-year-old mom works for First Coast Security and was cleaning her gun in their home on Playschool Lane near Ricker Road when the weapon discharged, police said. The 14-year-old was hit by the shot.

The woman took her daughter to the Park West Emergency Room, and from there she was taken to Wolfson Children's Hospital in serious condition.

The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified and will investigate.
