According to JFRD, the damage inside was extensive.
The homeowners said they were in the garage when lightning struck and they heard a massive boom. After some time, they started smelling smoke and thought a tree got it.
Neighbors came by and alerted them that smoke was coming from their roof, one homeowner said.
The fire was contained to the attic.
Firefighters spent considerable time making sure the fire was out and that there was no rekindling in the attic's insulation. The captain on the scene said lightning fires are tricky because they can spread to different areas of the home without obvious signs, so firefighters are incredibly thorough before clearing a scene such as this.
