Woman hit, killed on train tracks in Orange Park

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – A 56-year-old Clay County woman was hit and killed by a train Friday morning in Orange Park.

The woman, who was from Orange Park, was walking on the railroad tracks around 6:45 a.m. when she was hit by a CSX freight train traveling northbound, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Family members said they believe the woman, who was reported missing just 30 minutes before she was hit, chose to take her own life.

The crash was on the tracks just south of Lakeside Villa Drive, parallel with Doctors Lake Drive.

A family friend said the woman lived about 2 miles from the crash site and that her rental car was parked just down the road.

Roadblocks were in place for about four hours Friday morning as the Sheriff's Office investigated.
