CALLAHAN, Fla. – A car that drove around downed crossing arms at railroad tracks in Callahan Saturday night struck by an Amtrak train, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Deborice Harris, 26, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla just before 8 p.m. when troopers said he went around the crossing arms across Brandies Avenue. The car was struck by the southbound, 16-car passenger train.

Harris and passenger Ricky Skelton, 31, were taken to UF Health Jacksonville with serious injuries.

No one on the southbound train was injured, but the Amtrak train was delayed for several hours.
