Crash involving SUV and pickup truck on US 301 causes injuries

JFRD: Crash happened on U.S. 301 and Gilridge Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Shattered glass and twisted metal. That's what Fire and Rescue crews found when responding to a crash along Southbound US-301 early Saturday evening.

Police are not providing details into what happened, but victims in an SUV say the driver of a pickup truck ran them off the road. They say the driver of the pickup was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic.

At one point, they say the truck clipped the back of their Ford Escape – causing their mini-SUV to spin out of control and land in the grass median. The couple and their dog appeared to be okay, even though the female passenger said she may have injured her back.

The damage was much worse for the truck that hit them. They say upon impact, the truck lost control and went off the road, hit a tree then came to a stop at the edge of a creek.

They say a man who was driving and a child appeared to be unconscious.

An officer at the scene said one person was transported to the hospital but authorities would not confirm how many people were in the truck.

The names of those involved in the crash have not been released.

It's unclear if the driver of the truck will be cited.

Several witnesses to the crash pulled over to help after seeing the crash.
